Hummel plans on playing next season

Robbie Hummel’s college career isn’t over yet. His dad, Glenn, told the Indianapolis Star that the 6-8 forward will return to Purdue for the 2011-12 season.

Hummel, who on Saturday tore the ACL in his right knee for the second time in eight months, will apply for a medical redshirt season and most likely apply to graduate school.

“Rob is going to meet with his academic adviser and discuss it. Academic options are available to him,” Glenn told the Star.

As for knee surgery, Hummel’s planning on having it during Thanksgiving break so he won’t miss any classes. He’s serious about his studies.

“I just got off the phone with Rob, and he is doing surprisingly well,” Glenn said. “In fact, he was headed to a group project meeting for one of his classes.”
