Syracuse don’t need no home cookin’

Syracuse knows there’s no place like home.

The Orange rarely venture out of the state of New York before Big East play begins, and this year’s no exception. They’re 4-0, all from games at the Carrier Dome, and will play another eight home games (and a semi-home game against Michigan State on Dec. 7) before finally hitting the bricks for a Jan. 8 game against Seton Hall.

So it was a small surprise to read about how excited Syracuse is for a mini-road trip this weekend to Atlantic City for the Legends Classic. Well, at least for the getting there part. It’s an optimum chance for everyone to bond and give each other a little grief.

And perhaps work out the kinks. Fans haven’t been keen on Syracuse’s performance thus far.

“The first road trip is always good, just for the travel part of it,” Kris Joseph told the Syracuse Post-Standard. “From getting on the plane for the first time to getting the new guys ready. They’re already excited. I was just talking to Dion (Waiters) and I told him I have already picked my spot on the plane. I told him he has to wait until the spots fill up. And then he can choose.”

Of course, it’s not like the Orange suck on the road, either. They were 8-1 on the road last season (all Big East wins) and 5-2 on neutral floors. That’s one way to post a 30-5 record. The road seemed to help ‘Cuse sharpen its attention on winning the game.

“We can get away from what’s going on on campus,” James Southerland told the paper, “and just focus on the game. I feel like I have more focus on away games.”

James must not know about Spectravision…
