SEC hoops an odd mix of unpredictable and unwatchable games

The SEC’s the worst of the six BCS conferences. Hmm. How to turn that into a positive… ah. Got it. The outcomes sure are unexpected!

Whether it’s Kentucky losing to Alabama or Tennessee beating Georgia thanks to an over-the-back-no-call-buzzer-beating shot, the league doesn’t lack for drama. Take Thursday’s Florida-Auburn outcome.

By all rights, the Gators are the far superior team. They’re 14-4, are tied with South Carolina for the Eastern division lead and have even been in and of the top 25 this season. That’s to be expected with all five starters back from last season’s NCAA tournament team.

What’s not expected is a 45-40 nail-biter vs. the Tigers (7-11, 0-4), who are vying with Wake Forest as the worst team among the major conferences. (Making just 28 percent of your shots will drag you down.) Florida needed to score the final eight points of the game to avoid the loss.

Yeesh. This is a conference for gamblers or fans who are faint of heart.
