Izzo sounds unlikely to give Lucious another chance

Korie Lucious’s college hoops future could still be in East Lansing. But don’t count on it.

As Lansing State-Journal reporter Joe Rexrode notes, Tom Izzo is on the hunt for 2011 guards. Like, now.

“We’re gonna be out recruiting some people,” he said.

Lucious, a junior point guard, was dismissed for the season , but the wording of the dismissal left his return open for debate. Izzo’s latest statement sounds as if he’s done with Lucious. From Rexrode’s story:

I actually love Korie to death. But the mistakes you make ... he’s one of the nicest kids to talk to. He’s loved by every manager, everybody. He treats everybody great, he doesn’t big-time anybody. But nice people make mistakes too. And nice people have to be held accountable just like bad people have to be held accountable.

And, in case anyone’s wondering if Izzo will pursue any junior college guards, that’s a big, fat no. Sounds to me like Lucious would be a more appealing option.

“It would have to be an extraordinary situation, because I’m not bringing anybody in here who I’m questioning,” Izzo said.
