Wednesday’s Morning Shootaround: UNC wins, Kentucky loses, Penn State loses a player

Ole Miss 71, No. 11 Kentucky 69: See here.

Chris Warren had 22 points and went 9-15 from the floor, including a 25 footer three over Terrence Jones with 2.9 seconds left, that gave the Rebels a 71-69 over UK. Kentucky got a combined 57 points from Terrence Jones, Brandon Knight, and Doron Lamb -- including all 34 of the Wildcat’s second half points -- as they rallied from an 11 points deficit in the second half, but it was a shot clock violation with 15 seconds left caused by Darius Miller and DeAndre Liggins that will be the lasting memory for UK fans.

No. 23 Florida 65, No. 24 Vanderbilt 61 OT: See here.

No. 18 Wisconsin 66, No. 10 Purdue 59: The Badgers stymied the Boilermakers offensively in the first half, but Purdue hit their stride in the second. They made their first nine shots from the field as E’Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson both got into a rhythm. Purdue would go up as much as seven points, at 46-39, but the Badgers went on a 19-6 run to take a 58-52 lead. Purdue responded with seven straight -- the last five from DJ Byrd -- to take a 59-58 lead with 1:10 left, but Ryan Evans hit a foul line jumper on the ensuing possession and the Badgers hit their free throws late to seal the win.

Johnson had 17 of his 23 points in the second half, showing off his offensive arsenal, but Jon Leuer answered with his own 24 point, 13 rebound performance in the win.

North Carolina 106, Boston College 74: Remember what I said about Harrison Barnes and turning points on Monday? Well, he followed up his career high of 25 points on Saturday with 26 points on Tuesday night as the Heels rolled over the Eagles.

Wichita State 70, Indiana State 54: The Shockers turned the Valley into a three-team race thanks to 28 combined points from Garrett Stutz and J.T. Durley.

No. 24 Illinois 68, Penn State 51: Mike Davis had 22 points and seven boards to lead the Illini to a win in front of 3,500 folks that braved the wintry weather. More importantly, Jeff Brooks -- Penn State’s second most important player to Talor Battle -- dislocated his right shoulder.

No. 2 Kansas 88, Texas Tech 66: This one was never close thanks in large part to 46 points and 25 boards from the Morrii and Thomas Robinson.
