Walker, Lamb best 1-2 punch in Big Dance thus far

spt-110328-jeremy-lamb_standard

Kemba Walker really is Superman. That was true most of the season when the junior guard spent a good portion of the season carrying the Huskies on his back.

Well, he’s been even better in the Big Dance.

Through four NCAA tournament games, no player can claim a higher offensive rating compared to the massive amount of minutes played and possessions used, according to stats compiled by Dan Hanner over at RealGM.com.

Walker’s tourney stats are on top, regular-season stats on the bottom.

Simply put, Kemba’s been sick. Here’s Dan’s assessment:

To maintain a 125 ORtg while playing virtually every minute and using almost 37% of his team’s possessions is simply phenomenal. Kemba Walker may not have been the regular season MVP, but right now he is the tournament MVP.

If that’s not enough, UConn’s also getting insane offensive efficiency from freshman guard Jeremy Lamb. His 145.6 ORtg is the best among anyone still playing, by far. He’s using only half of the possessions Walker is, so his impact isn’t quite as immense, but those two will present a formidable challenge for Kentucky.

Hanner assesses every Final Four player in that post. Other interesting observations:

  • Butler freshman Khyle Marshall has grabbed one offensive rebound every 3.7 minutes. Yes, that’s a ton. But unless Ronald Nored’s playing amazing defense, his impact might be hurting Butler a bit.
  • Bradford Burgess, Jamie Skeen and Brandon Rozzell are shooting lights out from beyond the arc, but point guard Joey Rodriguez rates nearly as well on offense because of his high assist rate.
  • Josh Harrellson has elevated himself from solid role player to significant contributor. Not bad for a guy who was an afterthought last year.
