N.C. State reportedly set to introduce Gottfried as coach

N.C. State will name former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried as its new coach Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

A press conference is schedule for 5 p.m. ET.

Gottfried, 47, will replace Sidney Lowe, who resigned March 15 after five seasons with the Wolfpack. He was 86-78 overall, 25-55 in the ACC and never made the NCAA tournament.

Contrast that with Gottfried, who was 210-132 in 11 seasons at Alabama, made the NCAA tournament five times and reached the Elite Eight in 2004. The Tide even reached the top of the AP poll during the 2002-03 season.

Still, Gottfried’s been out of coaching for two seasons. It’s clear he wasn’t N.C. State’s first choice, otherwise the coaching search wouldn’t have taken this long.
