Even Nerlens Noel can’t block everything

Nerlens Noel will be a legendary shot blocker before he even enters college.

ESPN says he has “uncanny defensive instincts.” Scout.com raves about his “extreme length” and his explosive athletic ability. And just two days ago, Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News/AOL likened the 6-11 forward in the high school crop of 2013 to none other than Bill Russell.

Sure, Noel’s offensive game needs work, but his defensive ability is so good that he could be the class’ best prospect. As another prospect told DeCourcy, Noel is “probably the top player in his class because of what he does to you on defense, and he affects the game on offense.”

But, like all great shot blockers, Noel occasionally gets POSTERIZED. Yesterday, it was another touted prospect in Shaq Cleare.

Not bad. But I think Russell would’ve blocked that.
