A speechless Dick Vitale meets Pope Benedict XVI

It won’t earn him beatification, but Pope Benedict XVI did pull off a small miracle Tuesday.

He rendered Dick Vitale speechless.

When the loquacious ESPN college basketball analyst met the pope on Tuesday while vacationing in Italy, he admitted that his hands were shaking and he was in awe.

In fact, Vitale tweeted that his goosebumps were so severe that the pope actually started a conversation between the two. (Probably wanted to discuss whether UNC or Kentucky was the more worthy preseason No. 1).

Vitale kept his cool and “asked his Holiness to pray 4 peace in our world & 4 my fam.” Hours later, he was still giddy about the encounter.

That’s a big week for a devout catholic. How does one say “Awesome baby!” in Latin?

Polish, what ever went wrong with you? Your family did right in raising you but you have obviously failed them, yourself, and God. It seems to me you chose to live a cold, lifeless lifestyle…sad.

Now if we could just get Dickie V to STAY in Italy, this would be a worthy story. Otherwise, I agree with polishkingski. He’s just a man and no more special than anyone else, maybe even less special than some.

PP16 has done great things and so has the Church. It reaches out to poverty, the sick, the lost and forgotten….what have you done for humanity? Probably very little.

You sound rather bitter Pk and sorry but I have no clue what” the obvious reasons” are that you left the church. That’s your problem buddy and you obviously have one.

That you would down someone for his excitement over meeting what MANY DO feel is an important guy in our church is pretty pitiful.

That the Pope is just a guy is stating the obvious. He just happens to be in a position of authority and responsible for the faith lives of millions. I’d say that’s pretty impressive, regardless of whether I agree with the Pope or not.
