Austin Hatch is out of the hospital

Finally, for the first time in what seems like six months worth of season-ending injuries, injury-caused retirements and expansionocalypse messes, we have some good news in the world of college hoops.

Austin Hatch, the Fort Wayne, Ind., native and Michigan commit in the class of 2013, has finally been released from the hospital.

“We are extremely thankful and relieved that Austin is home with us,” Hatch’s family said Sunday in a statement emailed to The Journal Gazette. “While Austin has made great improvements, he still has obstacles to overcome as he continues to heal, grieve and acclimate to life after tragedy.”

If you’ve forgotten, Hatch had been in the hospital for the past three months. He was flying with his father and stepmother when his father crashed the plane. Both Hatch’s father and stepmother were killed in that crash, which came eight years after Hatch’s father crashed a different plane -- killing his mom, his brother, and his sister. Hatch’s family did not disclose where Austin has will be living, as they’ve asked for privacy while he finishes his rehabilitation. Hatch suffered head injuries, a punctured lung and fractures to his ribs and collarbone.

And to think just yesterday we were saying Mo Creek had horrible luck.
