Good omen for Michigan State in Carrier Classic?

As Michigan State coach Tom Izzo stood on the deck of the USS Vinson, surveying the area where his Spartans will play North Carolina in the Carrier Classic on Friday, he got word that he’d secured a commitment from 5-star prospect Gary Harris.

That’s a good sign if there ever was one.

Harris, a 6-4 shooting guard from Indiana, choose MSU over Purdue, Kentucky and Indiana. But what must have made it so nice for Izzo is that there wasn’t really an indication which school Harris would choose.

So just two days before facing the nation’s No. 1 team, the Spartans pick up a 2012 recruit who’s an elite scorer and an excellent athlete. Even if they don’t beat the Heels, Izzo will have a plesant memory from the Vinson.
