Video: Will Syracuse’s defensive rebounding be its downfall?

Syracuse is 24-1, ranked No. 2 overall and pretty much has the Big East and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament locked up. It’s been that good this season. (OK, the last one isn’t really “locked up,” but it’s close.)

So why was Orange coach Jim Boeheim so mad after Wednesday’s win against Georgetown? Because his guys got killed on the boards – and it almost cost them a win.

“They got on the boards from the beginning,” Boeheim said, “and that’s just a disaster for us, getting outrebounded by 17 rebounds. This is a disaster game as far as I’m concerned. Very disappointing at this stage of the year to get beat like that on the boards.

“You can miss shots. That’s part of the game. We have got to find a way to rebound the ball better.”

The Hoyas’ 20 offensive rebounds were the real difference. Syracuse has never been a strong defensive rebounding team – 2007-08 they were average among D-I teams – but this season’s abysmal. Only seven D-I teams are worse. So how are they winning? The SportsTalk guys answer that question.
