This Saturday will be much better for Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta. Then again, anything might be better than what happened during the Florida State game.

The former N.C. State stars – Corchiani is the school’s all-time assists leader and Gugliotta is one of its all-time leading scorers – were ejected during the second by official Karl Hess. The ACC’s head of officials later issued a statement stating that refs do have the authority to remove fans who are demonstrate “extreme or excessive” behavior.

Anyway, the two stars probably won’t get run this week. Not when the school is honoring them before facing No. 8 North Carolina.

It’s a planned celebration of their 1988-89 team, which will receive the inaugural “Wolfpack Unlimited” award.

“We are proud to honor the terrific team of 1989,” Athletic director Debbie Yow said in a release issued Sunday. “That group proudly represents the pride of the Wolfpack. They achieved success because they refused to accept the status quo. It is fitting that a team coached by Jim Valvano, the epitome of never giving up, will be the first to receive this award.”

Yow says the team was being considered for the award before the ejections, but told the AP that it “was the right recipient for the first one.”
