One team, 103 points and 28 turnovers. Wait, what?

Forgive me if I missed Alcorn State’s quarterfinal matchup in the SWAC Tournament against Prairie View A&M on Thursday afternoon.

There was a lot going on.

But based on the box score, I probably should have watched it.

Alcorn State won 103-79, but that was just the start of it. The score at the half? 50-17. A quick bit of math (carry the two...) tells me that Prairie View A&M scored 62 second half points. And lost by 24.

That’s wild.

But there’s more.

Alcorn State committed 28 turnovers -- 28 turnovers! -- and they still scored 103 points despite hitting just five three pointers. Prairie View A&M wasn’t much better. They turned the ball over 22 times. Some more quick math and we find out that there were a grand total of 50 turnovers in this game. That’s insane. AAU games don’t have that many turnovers.

Perhaps the craziest stat is that there were 96 possessions in this game. Based on what StatSheet.com tells me, only two games have had more possessions this season. One of them went to four overtimes. The other was when the fastest team in the country, VMI, played something called Central Penn College.
