Miami received a piece of good news on the status of one of its key players, but clearly it’s too late to have any kind of impact on their NCAA tournament hopes.

Junior guard Durand Scott, who was ruled ineligible just hours before the Hurricanes’ ACC tournament game against Florida State on Friday, was reinstated by the NCAA after he was determined to have received improper benefits.

However as part of the ruling Scott must sit out five additional games for receiving those benefits under the prior coaching staff, and this rules him out of the Postseason NIT should the Hurricanes remain alive.

In addition to the games he’ll have to sit, Scott will need to repay the monetary value of the benefits in the form of a charitable donation.

As for what this could mean for Miami down the line, the school still has yet to sit in front of the Committee on Infractions in regards to dealings with former booster Nevin Shapiro.

That’s the clear concern off the court for Miami, although it’s pretty clear that the football program will be under the most scrutiny when that meeting happens.

As for their NIT hopes, the Hurricanes still have Malcolm Grant, Trey McKinney-Jones and Shane Larkin. Depth won’t be an issue on the perimeter.
