Clark Kellogg doesn’t mind missing his son’s Ohio games

Ohio sophomore Nick Kellogg’s like most kids. He’d wants his parents to come watch him play. But that’s not always an easy thing for his dad, Clark. Pops happens to be CBS’s lead college basketball analyst.

When the NCAA tournament field was announced, Nick texted his dad asking him to “come to Nashville” where the Bobcats’ games would be played. Didn’t happen. Clark went to Greensboro and had to pay attention to Nick’s games from afar.

Turned out to be quite the run, too. The Bobcats, seeded 13th in the Midwest, upset 4-seed Michigan, then rallied past 12-seed South Florida for the school’s first Sweet 16 spot since 1964.

You can hear the stress in Clark’s voice here.

Dad won’t be calling Nick’s Sweet 16 game, either. He’ll be in Atlanta, providing analysis for Baylor-Xavier, then the big game of the round, Kentucky-Indiana. Not that he minds. If he’s gonna watch his son, he doesn’t want to do it with his analyst hat on.

“I’d rather just watch his games as a dad,” he told USA Today.

Ohio plays North Carolina on Friday at 7:47 p.m. ET.
