In December, South Florida’s LaVonte Dority announced that he was leaving the South Florida program. The 6-1 point guard from Chicago apparently wanted more playing time, and wasn’t going to get it after Anthony Collins returned from injury. Dority averaged 3 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.8 steals for the Bulls in the early going this season.
Tonight Scott Phillips tweeted Dority’s final destination.
Not only is Valparaiso closer to home, but Dority chose a school where 7 of the top 8 players were juniors. And it’s also a system where head coach Bryce Drew runs a guard-heavy lineup. The Crusaders won the Horizon League regular season title by two games.
Transfers in and out of Valparaiso haven’t been rare of late. They’ve added Ben Boggs from Virginia Tech, Will Bogan from Ole Miss, and lost Brandon Wood to Michigan State.
Coming out of Edwin G. Foreman High in Chicago, Dority was rated by ESPN as one of the top-50 point guards in the nation.

Valpo is a good BB school. It’s a nice area – not too far from Chicago not too close. I used to live there.
