UPDATE, 6:20 p.m. ET: Davis said afterward that his knee was fine, just sore after bumping it with Jones’.

It was 3:39 p.m. ET when the state of Kentucky inhaled one giant collective breath (well, except for some of Louisville).

That was when Wildcats center Anthony Davis drove to the basket and bashed his left knee into Baylor’s Perry Jones III, crashed to the floor awkwardly and grabbed the knee, wincing in pain.

He got up, limped to the Kentucky bench, then re-entered the game a few seconds later. But he had a noticeable limp and didn’t appear comfortable doing much of anything on the court. He asked to be taken out with about 12 minutes left in the second half and Kentucky holding a 56-38 lead, but checked back in to continue playing and notched a block a minute later.

In fact, he didn’t miss much playing time.

(Latest game updates here.)

Davis could have a variety of injuries. A tear, a contusion, a strain, anything. But if it’s anything serious that prevents him from playing again in the tournament, it completely changes the tournament. The 6-10 freshman is the nation’s best defensive player and Kentucky’s leading scorer.

But all that remains to be seen.
