McDonald’s All-American Game roster preview: Part I

kyleandersonhg

On Wednesday, March 28, the best players in high school basketball will gather at the United Center in Chicago to showcase their talents in the annual McDonald’s All-American Game.

Leading up to the game, NBCSports.com will highlight each of the participants, taking place in four installments and beginning with the East roster.

EAST

Kyle Anderson | Guard/Forward | St. Anthony (NJ) | Signed to UCLA

Anderson is one of the most unique players in the country. A 6-8 point guard, he is the biggest asset in UCLA’s 2012 class. Though the biggest knock on Anderson has been his speed, he is calculated and precise with his movements and passes, which makes him dangerous on the offensive end.

DaJuan Coleman | Forward/Center | Jamesville-DeWitt (NY) | Signed to Syracuse

Syracuse may not be so worried if they lose Fab Melo to the NBA draft because they have this 6-10, 285-pound big man coming in 2012. Add him alongside Rakeem Christmas, who will be in his sophomore season, and possibly star Nerlens Noel, and the Orange will reload their roster.

Kris Dunn | Guard | New London (CT) | Signed to Providence

Kris Dunn and backcourt complement Ricardo Ledo are the centerpieces for Ed Cooley’s rebuilding efforts at Providence. He is a Top 25 player in the class who is versatile, and even turned down in-state favorite Connecticut to join the Friars. At 6-4, he has good size for a guard and averaged more than 30 points per game this season.

Perry Ellis | Forward | Wichita Heights (KS) | Signed to Kansas

Thomas Robinson is expected to make the leap to the NBA, so filling his spot will be Ellis. He averaged nearly 26 points and 10 rebounds this past season. Ellis turned down Kentucky, Kansas State, and Wichita State to come to Kansas.

Shaq Goodwin | Forward | Southwest DeKalb (GA) | Signed to Memphis

Goodwin is an athletic forward who turned down a number of schools in the SEC to join the Tigers. He recently won the Atlanta Journal-Constitution slam dunk contest. Check out video of that here.

Amile Jefferson | Forward | Friend’s Central (PA) | Undecided

Jefferson is expected to choose between Duke and NC State in the coming weeks and whoever lands him will have an intelligent, crafty basketball player with a knack for finding the right shot. He will need to bulk up in college, but his basketball IQ is one of the highest in the class.
