The Lexington postgame celebrations of Kentucky’s eighth national title consisted of some raucous crowds, roughly 60 fire calls (most “nuisance fires”) and 25 ambulance runs for minor injuries.
Well, 24 minor injuries. A Louisville man was shot in the leg and eventually needed his foot amputated.
The man, identified by Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts as Harold Calloway, 31, was shot around 2:15 a.m. early Tuesday morning after he reportedly got into an argument with another man. (Victims’ names are usually withheld, but Roberts says Calloway has outstanding warrants in Indiana.)
According to Calloway’s friends, the vehicle in which he was riding had stopped to talk to some girls when he stepped out of the vehicle to argue.
“The suspect then brandished a handgun and fired multiple rounds,” Lt. J.J. Lombardi told the Lexington Herald-Leader. “One of the rounds struck the victim in the foot, and three other rounds struck the vehicle.”
The suspect then fled.
No one else was injured and no other vehicles were hit.
