JUCO PG Fabyon Harris works through troubles, commits to Texas A&M

BillyKennedy

Fabyon Harris has had to overcome tragedy early in his life. His mother was murdered, as was his brother, and his cousin, and a good friend.

He tried to move away from his difficult upbringing in Chicago and play basketball at Houston last year, even signing a letter of intent, but chose to leave for personal reasons in August before the season began.

He tried Howard County Junior College, but never played a game there. He, along with two other teammates, were arrested on a theft of property charge and Harris was released from the team.

This is where he hopes things change.

After averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for the College of Southern Idaho this past season, the 5-11 point guard has committed to Texas A&M, according to multiple reports.

Harris was originally a member of the Class of 2010, a three-star prospect coming out of Hyde Park Academy (Il.). At the time, he was drawing interest from schools including Houston, Creighton, LaSalle, DePaul, and Southern Methodist.

Texas A&M will be Harris’ fourth destination in two years. Scouts say that he works well in transition and is a quick, low-to-the-ground guard who is a solid passer and has good court vision.

The Aggies finished 14-18 this past season and are losing guard Khris Middleton to the NBA draft, after he averaged over 13 points per game.

Harris joins a three-man class for A&M in 2012, a class that includes four-star prospects J-Mychal Reese and Alex Caruso. Shooting guard Shawn Smith is a three-star prospect who has committed and is expected to sign in the spring signing period, which begins Wednesday.
