Report: Duquesne hires LIU-Brooklyn’s Jim Ferry

According to a report, Duquesne has hired Jim Ferry from LIU-Brooklyn to replace Ron Everhart, who was fired last month.

Ferry has spent the last 10 years with the Blackbirds, taking them to two consecutive NCAA tournaments. He’s also won the last two NEC regular season titles. Prior to 2011, the Blackbirds hadn’t won a conference title in 14 years.

LIU-Brooklyn has been one of the most entertaining teams in the country to watch during that stretch, as Ferry implemented an uptempo system that emphasized getting the ball up and down the floor. Ferry will be replaced by Jack Perri, who has spent the last seven years as a member of Ferry’s staff and the last five as the associate head coach.

The Duquesne job will not be an easy one for Ferry.

Everhart changed the culture of basketball at Duquesne. In his six years with the Dukes, he led the program to five seasons with a .500 or better record and three trips to the postseason. In the 25 years prior to Everhart’s arrival, Duquesne finished with a .500 record just twice.

Ferry will also be taking over a team that lost two starters and a third member of the team to transfer this offseason, including star point guard TJ McConnell. It will be a rebuilding process in Pittsburgh.
