Belmont wing J.J. Mann to be soccer team’s goalie?

Belmont sophomore J.J. Mann isn’t really the shot-blocking type. In two seasons with the Bruins, he’s been credited with just one block in 1,306 minutes.

That’ll have to change for his new role.

The 6-6, 210-pound wing is reportedly training as a goalie with the Belmont soccer team. and could even play against rival Lipscomb.

Mann might make a good keeper, too. His height is a huge asset, as is his mobility and leaping ability. But it seems like an odd move considering the team has two goalies returning, including Lou Manning, a senior with similar size to Mann.

Also, per Mann’s Belmont bio, he’s not a soccer player. He played basketball extensively in high school and also played some baseball, but soccer isn’t listed. Picking up the position’s nuances, adjusting to guys jockeying for position on corner kicks and directing the defense when needed. Also, can he kick?
