While Cameron Dollar’s Seattle Redhawks did finish the 2011-12 season with a 12-15 mark, winning six of their last seven games was a good way to go into the off-season.

With the move to the WAC next season comes the opportunity to not only play for a conference title but also earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.

And while neither Emerson Murray nor Isiah Umipig can help them in game action next season, landing these two transfers is a step in the right direction for the program.

Murray, a 6-3 guard from Vancouver, B.C., played in 57 games at California but did not see much playing time in the Golden Bears’ crowded backcourt.

Umipig, a 6-1 guard who grew up in nearby Federal Way, was Big West 6th Man of the Year during his freshman campaign at Cal State Fullerton and followed that up with 13.5 points per game in 2011-12.

“We are obviously thrilled to add two quality high level guards. Emerson is probably the most explosive and athletic guard we have had in our program,” said Dollar in the school’s press release.

“Isiah is a proven winner and scorer who I have known for years. It’s always a great day when our local players return home,” Dollar said.

Year one in the WAC will be an interesting one to watch as the Redhawks won’t have to deal with Fresno State or Nevada (both heading to the Mountain West), but they also have to make up for the graduation of Aaron Broussard.

Sophomores Sterling Carter and Clarence Trent will lead the way this season, and being able to add Murray and Umipig in 2013-14 could make Seattle a team to watch once they’re eligible.
