Delvon Roe’s Trayvon Martin tribute video

Every year, there seem to be a couple of players that are simply adored by every single media member that covers college basketball.

This year, it was guys like Robbie Hummel, Kim English, Thomas Robinson and Nate Wolters. (Well, at least one media member was crushing on Wolters this season.) One guy that would have been on that list had he been physically able to play this season was Delvon Roe of Michigan State.

If you’ve forgotten already, Roe was a top five recruit coming out of high school but was never able to get healthy enough to be able to truly fulfill his potential. It’s a shame when a promising athlete has his body give out like that, but it’s inspiring when that athlete is able to fill that void in his life with another passion.

For Roe, that passion was acting. He has gigs in a couple of different movies lined up and seems to be well on his way to making a career in the public eye, the only change being that when we say he’s “playing a role”, it has an entirely different connotation.

Few of us have actually seen Roe perform, which is why the video that he released on Saturday is worth posting about. The topic, however, is a bit of a lightening rod: he made a tribute to Trayvon Martin, and it’s pretty good:

This is not a political blog. We’re here to keep you apprised of the everyday happenings in the world of college hoops, which is somewhere between clipping a hangnail and realizing your roommate finished the six-pack without reupping the beer supply on the seriousness scale.

I have my personal opinions about this issue, as I’m sure each and every one of you do. Let’s keep the politics out of this and instead focus on the fact that Roe is finding success off the court.
