Report: Virginia Tech speaks with NC State assistant Bobby Lutz

Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver has been hard at work looking for a new head coach after relieving Seth Greenberg of his duties on Monday afternoon.

And despite the criticism of both the timing of the move and how Greenberg was notified of the move, there have been multiple coaches who have expressed interest in the opening.

One of those coaches: current NC State associate head coach Bobby Lutz, who won 218 games in 12 seasons as head coach at Charlotte (1998-2010).

According to Mark Giannotto of the Washington Post there’s mutual interest between the two parties with Lutz’s prior head coaching experience seen as a positive.

Lutz isn’t the only name looking to become involved in the Virginia Tech search according to the report.

Other coaches reaching out to Virginia Tech either directly or through a third party include Loyola (MD) head coach Jimmy Patsos, Eastern Michigan head coach Rob Murphy and North Carolina assistant Steve Robinson.

Robinson went 110-104 in seven seasons as a head coach at Tulsa (1995-97; 46-18) and Florida State (1997-2002; 64-86).
