Larry Brown has made another move on the recruiting trail, the second notable one in his short time at SMU.
Illinois transfer Crandall Head has committed to the Mustangs, Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com is reporting.
Head recently visited the SMU campus.
He left the Illinois basketball program in December and has been exploring his options since. In the mean time, Illinois coach Bruce Weber was fired and is now at Kansas State.
Head was a Top 100 national prospect when he came out of high school in the Class of 2010, but saw limited minutes in his two seasons with Illinois.
In nine games this past season, he averaged one point and 0.6 rebounds in under 10 minutes per game.
The 6-4, 190-pound guard tore his ACL in high school, which caused him to miss his senior season, before ultimately landing at Illinois.
For Brown and SMU, the backcourt of the future is now set, with Head and Arizona transfer Josiah Turner.
The Mustangs are taking the high risk, high reward bet on Turner, who was a Top 10 player in the Class of 2011, but ran into legal and behavioral problems at Arizona, before deciding to transfer.
Though his numbers at the college level have yet to match the expectations that greeted him upon his arrival, Head comes from a basketball family. His older brother, Luther, starred at Illinois for four seasons and played most recently at the NBA level with the Sacramento Kings.
