Jeff Hathaway has landed on his feet.

After getting forced out as the athletic director at UConn prior to the 2011-2012 academic year, Hathaway has found a way to revive his career, taking over the same position at Hofstra.

“In collegiate athletics, the name Jeff Hathaway means success on any number of levels: in the classroom, on the playing field, in the boardroom, with donors and the media. Most importantly, Jeff’s focus on excellence, ethics, leadership and academics will allow Hofstra to move to the next level of excellence,” Hofstra president Stuart Rabinowitz said on Tuesday.

Hathaway’s name should be particularly relevant to college hoops fans, as last year was the final season of his five-year term as the NCAA’s Selection Committee chairman.

“I am thrilled to be here,” Hathaway said. “I had a chance [Monday] night to reflect on what it means to come here. It also gives you pause to reflect about where you have been and the roads you have traveled.

“I shared with [coaches] my feelings and expectations. For me it is plain and simple. I like to keep everything short and sweet, to the point. I’ve focused on three goals for my student athletes: Get your degree; compete and have the ability to achieve in your sport at the highest level; and prepare our students to be leaders once they graduate.”
