Kyle Smyth, a 6-4 guard who last month announced his intent to transfer from Iona, has committed to Seton Hall, according to J.P. Pelzman of The Record.
Smyth averaged 5.7 points and two rebounds per game last year for an Iona team that finished 25-8 and lost in the NCAA tournament to BYU.
The New Jersey native is reportedly eligible to play immediately, under the NCAA’s graduate transfer rule, after graduating from Iona in December.
Smyth was originally recruited by now-Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard, while Willard was at Iona.
Seton Hall finished the 2011-12 season with a 21-13 record and was eliminated in the first round of the NIT by Massachusetts. The two focal points of Seton Hall’s attack last season, point guard Jordan Theodore and forward Herb Pope, will be departing.
Smyth fills a need that the Pirates needed for a three-point shooter. Thought he shot 33% this past season, he shot close to 40% during his redshirt freshman and sophomore seasons.
