UPDATED: Report: Brown to hire Penn assistant Mike Martin

KTOLNMFHCOUDLWD

While taking time out of his busy schedule of comparing players and tweeting about pictures of New York City’s finest italian cuisine, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports managed to find a little bit of time to break some coaching news on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Rothstein’s report, Penn assistant Mike Martin will be returning to his alma mater to take over the Brown program. Martin will have beaten out current Brown interim head coach TJ Sorrentine and, among other, Glen Miller, a member of UConn’s staff that is Martin’s former head coach and mentor.

Martin was a four-year starter at Brown and a member of the winningest class in the history of the program at 63-45. He also led his class to a school-record 39-17 Ivy League mark during that period, which was the best record any team not named Penn or Princeton had posted in a four-year stretch before Harvard went and signed Tommy Amaker.

Martin would join Mitch Henderson (Princeton) and Jerome Allen (Penn) as head coaches working at their alma mater.

UPDATE: According to Jeff Goodman, Martin’s hiring is not yet official. Brown’s athletic director has apparently not made a decision yet.
