The state of Minnesota tried this at the high school level, I believe in 1987. After five fouls, a player could stay in the game, but every subsequent foul was an automatic two shot technical. Made for some rough games.

this rule absolutely needs to stay in place, otherwise what is stopping a team from fouling a great player who is a mediocre free throw shooter. the last minute of games lasts long enough in close games with the rule in place. imagine no reprocussion for fouls other than free throws. games would last for hours. I know free throws are part ot the game and many good players otherwise thrive, and still get away with horrendous #'s from the line but in the end it would hurt college hoops to partially take the importance of fouls out of the game.

Yeah, I'm a poindexter because I played lacrosse and I knew the rules. That makes a lot of sense. And of course the lacrosse world is filled with poindexters. BTW, one of the greatest lacrosse players ever was Jim Brown. Don't think anyone ever called him a poindexter. But I guess that makes me a poindexter because I also know the history of a sport I played. The author made an absolute statement right at the beginning of his article that was incorrect. Not a comment on the author to point out a mistake. Of course you have never corrected someone's mistake because you're not a poindexter.

It might be that lacrosse hasn't risen to the level to be considered one of the major sports, but just for your information there is a rule in lacrosse that results in a player being ejected from the game if he accumulates five personal fouls. Because lacrosse is a contact sport where personal fouls are not called as frequently as basketball, this rule is rarely triggered. But it's on the books nonetheless.
