The Atlantic Sun Conference handed out some awards on Thursday, and one of the honorees was former Belmont forward Mick Hedgepeth.

Hedgepeth was named Male Student-Athlete of the Year by the conference, capping a career in which he was an academic all-conference selection for each of his four years at Belmont.

Combine Hedgepeth’s academic honors with some of the accolades he earned on the floor (two-time all-conference selection, 2011 A-Sun tournament MVP, etc.) and what you have is one impressive four-year run.

But the most impressive aspect of Hedgepeth winning the honor has something to do with the Belmont program.

According to Belmont basketball’s Twitter account, this is the seventh time in the last 11 years that a Bruin basketball player has won the A-Sun Male Student-Athlete of the Year award.

Of course the streak will have to end with Belmont moving to the OVC this fall, but maybe Rick Byrd’s program can start a new streak in their new conference.
