Report: New Mexico adds a small forward in Kansas transfer Merv Lindsay

After taking a recruiting trip to New Mexico, former Kansas small forward Merv Lindsay verbally pledged to transfer to the Mountain West school according to the Lawrence Journal-World.

Lindsay didn’t see much playing time in Lawrence last season, playing just 11 games for the national runners-up and averaging 2.4 minutes per game.

While a slender small forward at 6-7, 195 pounds, the Moreno Valley, California native can use his transfer year to add some bulk and prepare for the 2013-14 season.

“I felt really good there, very comfortable,” Lindsay said. “I liked everything about the place — the coaches, players. I didn’t have any complaints, none at all. It’s a family atmosphere.

“I’m going to use the year off to work on everything that is wrong with my game, get in the weight room and improve so I’ll be ready to contribute to the team the following season.”

Lindsay will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season per NCAA transfer rules.

And with the likes of Tony Snell, Demetrius Williams and Kendall Williams all back in Albuquerque next season, Lindsay should benefit from going up against one of the Mountain West’s better perimeter groups on a daily basis.

There wasn’t likely to be much playing time for Lindsay at Kansas in 2012-13, with Travis Releford returning and incoming freshman Andrew White (not to mention fellow freshman Perry Ellis’ ability to play either forward position) arriving in Lawrence.
