NCAA’s Director of Enforcement resigns

NCAA-email1

The NCAA has lost their Director of Enforcement.

Just eight months after taking the job, Bill Benjamin resigned from the position last week, according to a report from the AP:

Osburn says Benjamin resigned last week and his final day at the NCAA will be June 11. Osburn says Benjamin left to “pursue other opportunities.”

Benjamin -- who spent 28 years as a career cop in Indianapolis after serving in the Marines -- was in charge of a team of six people tasked to investigate alleged violations by players, coaches and agents. His focus was on football, a sport that Benjamin played at San Jose State and with the Indianapolis Colts as a replacement player in 1987.

It’s just speculation, but my guess would be that, with the NCAA allowing for unlimited calls and texts from coaches to recruits, Benjamin simply got bored without anything to investigate.
