Suck it up, UK fans. This schedule is what you wanted

Jul 10, 2012, 4:17 PM EDT

John Calipari, coach of Dominican Republ

I don’t want to hear it, Kentucky fans.

I don’t want to hear one, single word of complaint about your Wildcats non-conference schedule. Because outside of a date with Baylor on December 1st, the only two relevant teams that the Cats will play at home in their non-conference schedule will be Marshall (blech) and Long Island (yuck).

Baylor is a top 25 team with quite a bit of size and athleticism. That will be an entertaining game. Marshall and LIU are both good enough to be tournament teams, which will provide some relevant matchups during the usually quite months of November and December.

But none of those can truly be considered marquee games, and when combined with the eight other games that the Wildcats will play at home, it means that it may not be worth it to purchase a ticket at Rupp until SEC play starts.

While I can understand why some members of Big Blue Nation will be upset by this — hey, I wouldn’t want to pay $75 for a ticket to a 9 pm tip between Kentucky and Samford, either — I have absolutely no sympathy.

This is what you wanted. This is Kentucky being a non-traditional program and scheduling in non-traditional ways. Remember how great you guys thought it was that John Calipari killed the rivalry with Indiana (which would have been played in Rupp this season, for what it’s worth) because Kentucky needs to play their marquee games in neutral sites to prepare for the NCAA tournament? This is what happens when all their marquee games are played at neutral sites. You have to watch the games on TV just like the rest of us.

Are you guys going to make fun of people that trumpet the atmosphere of on-campus games now?

This is, yet again, another genius maneuver by Coach Cal. He knows that, regardless of who Kentucky is playing, that he’ll sell out Rupp. He can prepare his team for the NCAA tournament without any threat to his program’s bottom line, because the bottom line is that Big Blue Nation is so passionate about their “Cayts” that every seat in the building will be filled regardless of their opponent.

And the irony here is that much of this schedule was not Calipari’s fault. He didn’t decide to play Notre Dame in Notre Dame, the schedule-makers of the SEC-Big East Invitational made that choice. Three of the games are part of the Barclays Center Classic. This also just so happened to be the year when Kentucky plays at Louisville. He would have gotten a home game with Indiana, but you know why that isn’t happening.

This is what you wanted, BBN.

You made your bed. Now sleep.

What in the bluest of blue h*lls are you talking about?

  2. 3ebfan - Jul 10, 2012 at 7:29 PM

This guy is an idiot. What exactly does cayts mean? Jesus I hate these guys who think they know ky, but have probably never been there.

Someone please tell me why Kentucky & Indiana won’t be playing this year? I’m out of the loop on this. IU should be awesome this year and Kentucky obviously reloads rather nice year after year. With out me speculating coach Cal is “afraid” to play a strong IU, can someone explain it to me? Thanks in advance. War Damn Eagle!

  4. hoosiercolts - Jul 10, 2012 at 8:48 PM

Patbocam- They’re not playing because Coach Cal doesn’t want his young team to get beaten and have their fragile psyches shaken. Simple as that.

LOLOLOL Nothing like a little pie in the sky hysteria to answer a legit question. Ignore the outrageous atmosphere in Bloomington last year why don’t you? Wait. You did. What is it about UK that makes IU fans so darn wacky? They have been crying like babies ever since Cal said he wouldn’t go back to Bloomington. No one in their right mind would actually “want” to play there. And with IU’s well documented hatred of UK (jealousy does that to people) it’s just not any real benefit to play before a riotous mob. THAT is as “simple as that”.

So go ahead and cry Hoosier, cry. I get a big kick out of it. They hate UK with a passion yet they can’t stand it that the series is over. Why play a team you hate anyway? You think you were hard to replace? Ha. Duke is on the schedule. So is Baylor. And when UK win’s “another” title you can cry some more. I think it’s funny. I really do. Mike Davis said he hates UK. Boob Knight won’t even say the word “Kentucky”. He slams UK all over the country. Now there’s a guy with a pedestal to stand on to preach about ethics. LOL It will probably have a statue of a coach choking a player on it somewhere. You and your psycho coaches can cry all you want. UK ain’t gonna play you. All the crying in the world won’t change that. But please continue. It’s entertaining to see you cry so hard trying. Really. It’s side splitting funny.

What happened in the NCAA last yr , UK versus Indiana, with UK having a young team?

  6. imforbigblue - Jul 10, 2012 at 9:35 PM

Yeah you mean the same UK team that started 3 freshmen who beat down that super great IU team that got lucky as hell and won on a three pointer at the buzzer? Hey IU fans trying being good for more than 1 year before you run your mouths because you have been UK’s bitch for years and we showed you in the turny last year your still our bitch on the way to #8

I think the pathetic grammar is confirmed by the comments.

    • kingghidora - Jul 11, 2012 at 2:25 AM

Spoken like a true Indy twit. Your grammar isn’t correct either pal. But please continue. It’s soooo funny to see people slamming other people’s grammar and then making ridiculous grammatical errors of their own. And I’m guessing you won’t be able to figure out your mistake in 100 years. So I’ll do it for you. “Grammar” has a modifier so “comments” has to have one too. I’d bet a dollar to a doughnut you didn’t know that either. Whether you did or not you didn’t include the modifier for “comments”. That makes your sentence structure WRONG!!! Parallel elements require balance in proper grammar. I just did it in my sentence. I’m guessing you don’t have a clue what I’m talking about. You probably went to Arsenal, didn’t you?

IU fans are the greatest. One Sweet Sixteen season and they think they’re relevant. Cute, really.

Did you know that every time a bell rings….. A UK fan is banging his sister.

It’s ok dude, I know you’ve got dibs after your dad. I’m not trying to jump in.

    • kingghidora - Jul 11, 2012 at 2:32 AM

THIS is the kind of stuff that makes UK want to avoid Assembly Hall like the plague. Do you really think this will make UK want to come back and play IU now? The funny part is you probably do. You are the prototypical Hoosier fan. You think insults are a measure of your worth. Well you should be worth a lot because you are an insult to humanity in general. Not everyone can say that. Congratulations. You made it. You pulled down the score for the whole human race. And I bet you think that moves you up the ladder so it’s a good thing. LOL.

  11. roland66and7 - Jul 10, 2012 at 11:09 PM

How original! I bet you write for The Onion!

  12. kingghidora - Jul 11, 2012 at 2:40 AM

Didn’t UK play UNC at home last year? Isn’t Baylor a top rate team? So you think losing IU is a big loss do you? Only a Whosyer (Daddy) fan would think this. And your slanderous, bigoted put down of what you think Kentuckians sound like is typical NBC. And they wonder why their ratings get lower and lower and lower. You insulted us non-stop but you just couldn’t figure out why we won’t watch. It just doesn’t make sense. You hate all the right people so why don’t they watch? Maybe because when you insult them enough they start to hate you too. That’s so crazy it just might make sesne. Nah! Put on a talking car that happens to be somebody’s mother. That will really grab ’em. And the car can insult white men all day long! Brilliant!

Hey….why not bring WV to Rupp…..oh wait isn’t Hugs still the Eers coach……never mind. Cal is 1-9 against Huggins coached teams……besides if they did come to Rupp we would have to go to Morgantown……think Assembly Hall is hard on the Kitties…..that Mountaineer packs a rifle…
