After losing Old Dominion, Georgia State, and Virginia Commonwealth to other conferences, the CAA may be looking for new members and, according to the Post and Courier, the conference could have its eye on College of Charleston.

According to the report, the CAA “has been in contact with the College of Charleston about the College’s potential interest in joining the league,” but no formal offer has been made.

Despite that lack of a formal offer, though, the school’s athletics committee “discussed a move to the Colonial Athletic Association,” which would constitute a first step toward joining the conference.

The committee would then have to investigate the issue and make a recommendation to the board. According to the report, athletic director Joe Hull has not set a timeline for the possible move, as the school considers the pros and cons of joining the new conference.

College of Charleston finished 19-12 this past season, including 10-8 in the SoCon, landing them fourth in the SoCon South. Head coach Bobby Cremins retired at the conclusion of the season and was replaced by former Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik.

The Cougars have three players joining the team from the Class of 2012, led by California forward Theo Johnson. They will be looking to compensate for the loss of senior forward and leading scorer Antwaine Wiggins.
