Doug Gottlieb’s reportedly leaving ESPN for spot at CBS

That massive ESPN stable of college basketball talent took a hit when news leaked that Doug Gottlieb would be moving to CBS, multiple sites reported on Monday.

That stable’s still stocked – anytime you can roll out Jay Bilas, Bill Raftery and Fran Frachilla (and Dickie V and Bob Knight) you’re set for analysis – but it’s a notable move for any college hoopshead. Gottlieb’s knowledgeable, quick and unafraid to disagree when the other talking heads all settle on one common point. Is Bilas now the only guy who’ll call BS on Digger?

(shudders at that thought)

So consider it a fantastic get for CBS and for Gottlieb, who’ll reportedly join in September. He’ll likely have a much larger role during the NCAA tournament, which means he can bring his game to a broader, more casual audience? (I hope they appreciate it.) Seems doubtful he’d displace Greg Anthony from the primo studio analyst seat during games, but Gottlieb’s got the goods to do it eventually.

Now, if only Golic, Linda Cohn and everyone on ESPN News would move to a cave.

Gottlieb is biased but opinionated. That doesn’t make him great, it usually makes him look silly trying to sell everyone on his Out-Southwest bent. He tried calling out Coach K, then licked his b*lls for a year just to get out of his doghouse. he sneers at Calipari like he’s on some pedastel and Cal is so much riff-raff. It’s all about his Kentucky hate, not his Calipari hate. Probably because his buddy Eddie Sutton couldn’t comport himself while there, and they tossed him aside after he left them on NCAA probation.

Now, that said… Bilas is the only real deal out there. He actually calls it like he sees it, despite what the Producers, The NCAA, other talking heads, and even nasty Knight have to say. I think he’d like to punch B. Knight in the face and bitch slap Digger Phelps.

    I know… he’s “got to go to work”…
