Tickets for Georgetown-Florida carrier game nearly sold out

Despite a steep $1,000 ticket price, tickets for the Georgetown-Florida game on the USS Bataan are nearly sold out, according to The Gainesville Sun.

Part of the reason for the quick sellout, the paper reports, is the fact that seating capacity changed. Because of a platform change onboard, there will be 4,000 available seats, as opposed to the original number of 8,000.

Plan are to heavily tie engagement from servicemen and women to the event, with 5,000 tickets set aside for those who are serving in the armed forces.

According to the report, those numbers will be adjusted to accommodate the smaller capacity.

”We’re working on reducing those ratios,” event organizer Alan Verlander told the paper. “The nice thing is that we will have jumbotrons on the base and after the pregame concert they will show the game on the big screens. So there will be a game-day atmosphere for those who can’t make it on the ship.”

Included in the package is a ticket to a Jacksonville Jaguars football game prior to the Florida-Georgetown game.

For the 2012-13 season, Georgetown will look to improve on a 24-9 finish last year and bring in four players from the Class of 2012.

Florida, coming off a run to the Elite Eight, will also welcome four freshmen.
