Missouri extends contract of athletic director Mike Alden

Mike Alden

Missouri has extended the contract of athletic director Mike Alden for two additional years, now locking him in through the 2019 school year, the school announced Thursday.

“Mike has provided important leadership during a time of transition of conferences,” Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton said in a statement. “His record of integrity is stellar and his national leadership in the NCAA reflects recognition of his orientation to the success of the student athlete.”

Under Alden’s watch, both the football and basketball programs have continued to succeed and cement their places in the national spotlight.

Missouri makes its move to the SEC from the Big 12 for this upcoming season. Missouri basketball finished 30-5, including 14-4 in the Big 12 last season.

“I want to thank Chancellor Deaton and our leadership at Mizzou for their continued confidence and support of our efforts in Tiger Athletics,” Alden said in a release. “This extension is greatly appreciated, and I believe it reflects the efforts of so many people working together for academic integrity, social responsibility and competitive excellence. We look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead as we enter the SEC.”

Away from on-field accomplishments, Alden has also overseen a $200 million renovation project for Missouri facilities.

As for compensation, the contract does not increase his base salary or incentive structure, but keeps his salary steady at just over $300,000 per year. With incentives included, he could make close to $800,000.
