There was a silver lining in the cloud that was Iowa’s 32-31 loss to Central Michigan on the gridiron on Saturday apparently.

6-6 shooting guard Peter Jok, who was in Iowa City on his official visit, reportedly committed to the Big Ten school on Sunday according to multiple outlets.

The West Des Moines (IA) Valley senior, who is originally from Sudan, also held an offer from Drake according to Rivals.com and schools such as Iowa State and Illinois also displayed varying levels of interest.

But Iowa hung with him despite Jok’s having to deal with the injury bug, and they were rewarded for that in the end.

Jok is Iowa’s first commitment in the 2013 class, and he’ll join a roster that includes the likes of freshmen Mike Gesell (point guard) and Adam Woodbury (center).

“I already knew some of the players, but this weekend I really got to hang out with all of them and they’re like one big family,” Jok said. “I feel like we can all be part of building something special there.”

Fran McCaffery has some experience back on campus this season when considering the likes of forwards Melsahn Basabe and Aaron White and guards Roy Devyn Marble and Eric May, but with just two seniors 2013-14 is setting up nicely for the program.

Iowa’s five-member freshman class will be sophomores, White a junior and both Basabe and Marble seniors, so while that may limit the number of players in the 2013 class Iowa can sign they won’t lack for talent.

The Hawkeyes went 18-17 (8-10 Big Ten) last season, falling to Oregon in the second round of the Postseason NIT.
