Former St. John’s standout Ralph Abraham has died, the Associated Press is reporting.

He passed away Tuesday, three days prior to his 64th birthday.

Abraham was a member of the then-Redmen from 1968-70, when the team had an overall winning percentage of .741 and reached the 1970 NIT final before losing to Marquette.

He was a star in high school in New York City at St. John’s Prep before attending St. John’s for college.

His children were and are part of college basketball, as well, with his son, Faisal, going on to play at Marquette, while his daughter, Tajama, coaches the women’s team at Radford University.

The cause of death was undisclosed.

On Saturday, St. John’s held its annual “Dribble for the Cure,” which raises money for cancer research. According to a press release from the school, the event raised more than $25,000 for the cause.

Head coach Steve Lavin, who is now cancer-free after missing much of last season recovering from cancer surgery, returns to the sidelines to coach the Red Storm in 2012-13.
