Comments on: Two Indiana freshmen suspended for nine games

I just noticed the suspensions were for violations committed by their legal guardian while they were in HIGH SCHOOL.

What is next for the NVAA, are they going to punish people for violation committed while they were in pre-school, why not go all the way back to gifts given to their mother before they were born.

I realize that is hyperbole but it is to make a point.

Wow, they sure got off lucky, imagine what the NCAA would have done if those players had traded their stuff for a tattoo.

They might have been banned from the NCAA Tourney.

Nah, the NCAA makes too much money off Indiana being in the tourney to ban them.

Is he legal guardian to BOTH of the players? When I read this, I noticed it said that he was legal guardian to Perea but didn’t mention the other. Not trying to stir anything, but I was just confused when I read that and then when they lumped all of the “benefits” into one sentence. If he was only guardian to one, then I guess my opinion would depend on what he gave the kid he wasn’t guardian to. If it was just meals and lodging, then no biggie, but they also included laptops, cell phones, and plane tickets into the same sentence. Just curious as to what the whole story is.

Unbelievable. The guy is their legal guardian.
He dontated a whopping $185.00 to IU over the course of a decade (TWENTY YEARS AGO).
As Maynard says…this now sets a precedent does it not?
No parent can ever donate to a school for fear of their kid being punished should he/she play on scholarship 10, 20, 30 years later. Go it. Makes a ton of sense. Wonderful idea. Great call NCAA.

Paranoid a little bit there, buddy? Hate to burst your bubble, but this is about an absurd, so-called “recruiting violation”, over a minimal dollar donation paid more than 10 YEARS ago. Nobody gives a sh!t what school it happened at. This has nothing to do with Kentucky. It has everything to do with the absurdity of the allegations/charges and the NCAA’s scope of authority. But thanks for injecting your stupidity into the conversation. It’s appreciated.

Here’s the most messed up part. Since Adams was the legal guardian of these two, the NCAA has essentially set the precedent that any athlete that has a parent that’s ever donated a dollar to their university is ineligible.

It’s absolutely absurd.

Easy to say all this now because it’s your school getting into trouble but if it would UK you guys would of been all over it saying how much Cal cheats. I think it couldn’t of happen to a better school and get a taste of being the cheaters now lol

Who gives $185 to a multi-million dollar basketball program or university to gain favor (presumably)? Seriously. That’s less than a rounding error to a school/program the size of IU. And since a $185 donation doesn’t exactly equate to murder, doesn’t a Statute of Limitations apply here somewhere? The NCAA is completely out of control. That organization needs a serious overhaul.

I can see the conversation now… “What do you do for a living?” “Oh, I work for the NCAA, looking into recruiting violations.” “Wow, I bet that’s an interesting job. What are you working on now?” “Huge. You wouldn’t believe it. This guy gave $185 to Indiana University over 10 years ago. I think I got him though.”

way to ncaa! never mind all the allegations about duke punish these kids for daring to have the things every kid in the U.S.A. has in a lap top and cell phone. and of course punish the kid for having a room and board provided by his guardian. exactly how is he supposed to pay 1600 dollars back when he does not have a job? both of them came to this country with the clothes on their back which is the reason this guy took care of them! he gave under 200 dollars 20 years ago and that makes him a booster? IU did not even try and hide anything and this is how they are rewarded? lesson learned if you are going to cheat do it like everyone else and under the table,then deny deny deny for years untill the kids are gone so the ones who had nothing to do with it are punished.

So he gives $185 to IU, $30 was the largest amount at any single time….. BEFORE either of these guys were BORN and that means that these two should be suspended?!?!?! The NCAA is such a joke.
