Marathon Madness is here!

And trust me, we have you prepared for the next 24 hours. You need advice on how to make it through all 24 hours? We got you covered. You want to know which games you can power nap through? Yeah, we got that, too.

The first game tonight is West Virginia heading out to Spokane to take on No. 19 Gonzaga, which has the makings to be one of the best games of the entire event. You like talented back court battles? How about Juwan Staten and Jabarie Hinds squaring off with Kevin Pangos and Gary Bell. You want to see athletic front court players go head-to-head? Elias Harris and Sam Dower will do exactly that with Aaric Murray. Are post battles between big, goofy big men your bread and butter? Well, you’ll love seeing Deniz Kilicli and Prmezek Karnowski going at it.

What are you excited to see? Who do you think will win? Will Bob Huggins be sporting a track suit? Join in on the conversation in the comments section.

I’ve got Gonzaga winning this thing. The Zags are better than people think. I know we say that every year, but it’s true this year.

  2. Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:03 AM

First observation of the Marathon: Deniz Kilicli looks weird without the beard.

  3. Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:09 AM

Wonder if anyone else notices that small blue strip above the WVU names on the back of their jerseys. The Big East logo was there last year, why didn’t Nike just give them new uniforms?

    • Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:10 AM

Definitely didn’t notice that. Hilarious, though.

  4. Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:13 AM

WVU shot 21% in the first half of the tournament game between these two last year and trailed 40-22 at the break. 1-of-7 early, hope this isn’t a repeat (for the sake of staying awake).

  5. Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:16 AM

Yeah, this has been ugly early. This massive Polish guy is my new favorite player, though.

  6. Troy Machir - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Am I the only one interested in seeing how Sam Dower does tonight/this year. Big man got a lot of preseason love. Intrigued to see if he can live up to the hype.

No one man should have all that dower. #Kanye.

  7. Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:25 AM

And with the Mountaineers looking every bit as efficient on offense thus far, the Bulldogs are poised to whip them again.

  8. Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:25 AM

I’ll never understand why they make east coast teams play in the middle of the night. West Virginia at midnight ET? Davidson at 2 a.m. ET? Silly. There are good teams out west, too.

  9. Fink - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:25 AM

WVU will find out soon that it shouldn’t have gotten out of the Big East… the ACC is too reliant on basketball, and WVU will always be #3 or 4 behind Duke/UNC…meanwhile UC and Louisville will run the table like WVU used to do in the Big East in both sports. It’s really too bad, the WVU/UC rivalry was great, especially once Huggins went home.

    • Troy Machir - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:32 AM

WVU is joining the Big-12, not the ACC. You must be thinking about Syracuse and Pittsburgh.

      • Fink - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:34 AM

either way, gonna be 2nd tier in either conference, though the big 12 is probably a much better fit i guess

    • Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:34 AM

I’m more upset about Syracuse and Pitt leaving the league. WVU has always felt like an addition. Those two WERE the Big East.

      • Troy Machir - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:37 AM

Totally agree. While I despise Syracuse, there’s no denying their role as one of the pillars of Big East basketball. Pittsburgh, despite it’s lack of March Madness magic, has been one of the most steady programs in the past decade. Both will be sorely missed.

      • Fink - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:38 AM

        Bro…they tazed me!

  10. Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:28 AM

Just saw this on twitter: Mark Few looks just like Brody from Homeland.

  11. Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:37 AM

And in non-marathon games Division II Alabama-Huntsville just beat North Texas. So Huntsville and Kansas State are playing for a trip to the NIT semis in NYC.

  12. Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 12:56 AM

Over/under on the number of F-bombs Huggy Bear drops in the locker room at halftime is 50. Bets?

    • Fink - Nov 13, 2012 at 1:03 AM

      bomb for every point…

    • Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 1:04 AM

Under. He’ll utter one bad word then just leave the room. What can you really say after a half like that?

  13. David Harten - Nov 13, 2012 at 1:02 AM

I’ll put one of these Blue Moons I got on 45. Takin’ the under.

    • Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 10:43 AM

Blue Moon? For shame, David. For shame.

  14. Rob Dauster - Nov 13, 2012 at 1:23 AM

    Elias Harris’ hair scares me.

    • Troy Machir - Nov 13, 2012 at 2:30 AM

      It inspires me

    • Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 2:45 AM

It reminds me of the hairstyle Tim Thomas had during his one season at Villanova.

  15. Raphielle Johnson - Nov 13, 2012 at 3:03 AM

Question for the people: how successful can New Mexico be with a four-guard lineup? Had to move away from it in the first half tonight.

  16. mophatici - Nov 13, 2012 at 4:30 AM

with unm, you got greenwood who will bulldog his way into getting tons of boards. williams and snell can both penetrate and draw tons of fouls. and tonight they proved that they don’t give up.
