Lights go out in Oxford, but Ole Miss holds on for win over Arkansas

Ole Miss junior guard Marshall Henderson can, at times, be said to “shoot the lights out”. But Saturday afternoon in Ole Miss’ 76-64 win over Arkansas, the lights went out with no help from Henderson.

With 5:37 remaining in the first half, Tad Smith Coliseum went dark for close to 25 minutes as arena officials worked to get power back and get the lights to working condition. During the unplanned intermission, or perhaps “pre-halftime”, teams returned to their locker rooms.

Once power and lights were restored, Ole Miss grew its 26-21 lead to as many as 13 points, 41-28, with 17:44 to play in the second half. Arkansas then used a 22-9 run to tie the game at 50 with 11:13 to play.

With five players in double figures and led by Henderson’s 16 points, the Rebels pulled away late in the second half for the win.

As Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo! Sports points out, this isn’t the first time Tad Smith Coliseum has run into problems. An Ole Miss women’s basketball game home game was rained out in February 2011. According to reports, high winds forced rain into air vents in the arena’s roof, which dripped heavily onto the court.
