Coveted forward Julius Randle visiting NC State this weekend

Texas native Julius Randle remains one of the top unsigned prospects from the Class of 2013 and, according to Evan Daniels of Scout.com, he will be on an official visit to North Carolina State this weekend.

Randle has remained open in his recruitment and lists the Wolfpack, Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida, and Oklahoma as his possible suitors. He has carried on one of the more guarded recruitments and has more options than many of his other blue-chip counterparts this late in the recruiting season.

Randle is a powerful 6-9, 225-pound forward who can face up to the basket, drive to attack the rim, or extend out toward the perimeter. Defensively, he is an active shot blocker and rebounder.

The Wolfpack take on North Carolina on Saturday, a game Randle will likely attend. As a recruiting tactic, the in-state rivalry game offers a chance to for Randle to be in the stands and surrounded by what should be a loud sell-out crowd.

NC State has made major strides on the recruiting trail since coach Mark Gottfried was hired in April 2011. His first recruiting class included three McDonald’s All-Americans (Rodney Purvis, T.J. Warren, and Tyler Lewis) and his Class of 2013 already includes three Top 100 prospects.

Randle would fit well in the frontcourt alongside big man BeeJay Anya, a 6-9, 275-pound center from Maryland. The class also includes highly touted point guard Anthony Barber and forward Kyle Washington.
