If an athlete can get $20K, what do you pay the biomechanical engineering student? How about the pre-med major? You want to get paid? Be good enough at your sport to sign a pro contract. You’re getting a six-figure education for FREE. That’s not enough?

Sister plays pro tennis and has sponsorships, uncle played 10 seasons in the NFL, both parents are college grads. Neither of the kids had to pay a dime for college. His family isn’t poor.

I certainly hope that Shabazz’s sister and mom bought that Gucci bag. So stupid to even think of raising suspicions by wearing that Gucci bag instead of the standard Bruins bag. I hope he gets cleared and remembers to be more careful about raising suspicion.

Yes, something big to see here. Kids family could not even pay own travel expenses for official visits and got benched at the beginning of the season, yet he always has prominent ice in his ears. Now he shows up wearing a 2 grand backpack? Let me repeat that, backpack. I had one of those in college also-it was an Eastpak and cost $30, not a Gucci. UCLA was a fool to get into bed with this on year wonder and better hope he is not the gift that keeps on giving in terms of NCAA issues.

The $2300 backpack is supposedly a gift from his 21 year old sister, who is apparently a professional tennis player. Riiight. She’s currently ranked 408th, and turned pro in 2007. She’s earned a total of $87,770 over that 5 year span, for a whopping average annual income of around $17,000. So she drops $2300 of that massive pile of cash on a designer Gucci backpack for her kid brother? Cool story, bro. Sounds Legit.

This would not be an issue if the NCAA allowed all the BCS conference schools who have million dollars TV deals to pay the revenue generating athletes (Football and basketball) 20k each. Each team who makes the NCAA basketball tournament should get 250k to distribute to the players. Who is getting all the CBS money? Only the non-revenue athletes are amateurs. However, there is still money to pay them 5k per year plus the scholarship. Are you really an amateur when you generate revenue and profits? How come the coaches and athletic directors get paid since they are working in an amateur business?
The NCAA sounds more like slavery when you think about it.
