Maryland honored former coach Lefty Driesell Saturday during a home win over Clemson. The legendary coach won and ACC tournament title and two regular season conference championships in his time with the Terrapins, as well as winning over 70 percent of his games.

“Lefty is a legendary coach and we are happy to recognize him on this special day,” Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson said in a statement. “It will be exciting for our longtime fans to celebrate Lefty’s return to the university.”

He was a great coach, he certainly put Maryland Basketball on the map, way back when.. I remember speaking to someone from the West coast (UCLA) who knew nothing about Maryland Sports except the name “Lefty Driesell” and that was when they had John Wooden as coach. hahaha. Thanks for the memories and the “UCLA of the East”, loved you then and love you now!
