The selection committee does not use the polls to seed out, which is why gonzaga won’t be a 1 seed. It’s also a joke if Miami and duke are. 2 #1 seeds from an insanely weak conference but only 1 #1 see from BY FAR the toughest conference in the big10?

Allegedly. The thing, Rob, that I don’t get is how Lunardi has the Gators as a #1 seed, yet the polls have them 7th or 8th, and he’s supposed to be the “guru” guy. Doesn’t the selection committee use the polls to seed? I understand that whether you’re a #1 or a #2 really doesn’t matter other than bragging rights. Since it’s neutral site, all that really matters is not playing one of the top 8 until the Elite Eight.

Well they lost to Illinois and Butler, really the only two teams on their schedule that are ranked (sorry, they beat OK St., by one point, in December). Other than that its a lot of crap wins–WVU, who sucks bad this year, Clemson, ditto, Oklahoma…meh. Gonzaga is ridiculously overranked this year, no doubt about it.

Another interesting ranking this week: New Mexico. They went into Moby Arena and ended Colorado State’s 27-game winning streak in that building — which was the third-longest in the country at that time — and only managed to creep up a couple of spots to 14th.
