Kentucky headlines the 2013 NIT Bracket, visits Robert Morris?

USA Today USA Today

Kentucky became the second reigning national champion in the last four years to miss the NCAA tournament on Sunday evening, and their consolation prize?

A No. 1 seed in the NIT.

And a trip to Robert Morris to play their first round game.

At least Coach Cal will be making a return trip to Moon Township.

Anyway, here is the rest of the NIT Bracket. I’m guessing you won’t be as excited about this bracket as that other national postseason tournament starting this week.

If this tourney wasn’t in direct competition with the Dance, the matchups and teams are intriguing. But its not the Dance, so its still for the 69th place trophy.

The NIT should rebrand its tourney. The NIT has a bad stigma attached to it. There is so much parity now, that they have a really good field of teams. No school or fanbase is prod to be NIT champs, if they win its more of a goof on that title than being supportive.

It’s all marketing. The NCAA operates (if not owns) the NIT, so it is around to make some also-rans happy and make a few dollars for the poverty stricken NCAA.
