Norfolk State head coach Anthony Evans will accept the head coaching position at Florida International, according to a report from The Virginian-Pilot.

Evans will be replacing Richard Pitino, who accepted the head coaching position vacated by Tubby Smith at Minnesota.

Evans has been at Norfolk State for a decade, the past six years as the head coach. The last two seasons, however, were by far the best of his career. In 2012, he rode the broad shoulders of Kyle O’Quinn to the automatic bid out of the MEAC, where he led NSU to an upset of No. 2 Missouri in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. This past season, he led the Spartans to a 16-0 record in MEAC play, but the Spartans were upset in the opening round of the league tournament.

FIU went 18-14 last season in the Sun Belt, but they’ll be moving to Conference USA next year.
